Growth at the Edges: Reflections on an Immersion into Grief

No one wants to be good at grief. Especially not the leaders, entrepreneurs, and badasses of the world. We’re too focused on building our worlds to give much thought to the possibility that death and loss will disrupt our plans. We live in a culture where we’re expected to bury our father on Sunday and be back for the board meeting on Tuesday.

Grief, like all edge states, can be a powerful teacher. But only if we allow ourselves to be present to it.

Dr. Sherry Walling became immersed in grief after losing her father to esophageal cancer and brother to suicide within six months of each other. In her new book, Touching Two Worlds, Sherry reflects on the dismantling power of grief and narrates the ways that modern society is “getting grief wrong.”  She also shares the invitations that grief offered to her: a deepening connection to creativity, a new relationship with her own body, and an enlivened sense of joy.

Join us for an intimate conversation about the heart and soul of grief. An undesirable topic that all of us will certainly be invited into at some point in our lives.

BONUS: All attendees will receive a copy of Sherry’s book, Touching Two Worlds: A Guide for Finding Hope in the Landscape of Loss (a $15 value)
